I will try hard to match the horses below with new owners who will enjoy them. Call or email me and we'll discuss the horse(s) you are interested in. Let me know your horsemanship experience and goals, and I will be honest about the health, soundness and disposition of any horse I have for sale or adoption.

In return, I hope you will be honest with me regarding how you will care for the horses. I want them to go to knowledgeable, responsible homes with safe fencing (not barbed wire), shelter from wind and rain, and equine companionship.

All of the horses here have been trained using Natural Horsemanship methods. They have good manners but this training needs to be ongoing for these manners to be maintained. If the new owners will learn Natural Horsemanship methods, they will be working with the horses in a way that is familiar to them.
A word about the off-track Thoroughbreds that we occasionally have for sale or are free to an approved home: Thoroughbreds are not easy keepers. They require alot of grain and hay or good pasture to keep them in good body condition. They are more expensive than most other breeds to feed.

Lu's Proud Delight (we call him "Walker") is a 7-year-old registered Tennesee Walking Horse gelding that stands 14.2 hands.  Midnight Sun appears four times in Walker's pedigree, which accounts for his smooth, natural running-walk, even barefoot. He also has a silky canter.

Walker has been trained using Natural Horsemanship methods, including desensitizing exercises, but remains shy and skittish by nature. He needs a calm, confident, experienced rider.  Walker rides great in our arena.  However, he does not have a lot of consistent trail miles on him, so he still rides pretty green in the woods.  He can get balky on the lead and he is sometimes jumpy.  I trail ride with slow company, so Walker doesn't get to work off any nervous energy.  Regular riding and a job would help this horse a lot.  He probably would make a terrific field-trial horse where he could travel alongside a fast-moving group of horses.

Howell's Fancy Cinnamon is a registered Racking Horse mare foaled April 18, 2003.  She stands 14.3 hands and her color is called a strawberry-roan, minimal sabino (meaning that she is a "pinto" without a lot of spots--just a couple on her belly).

Fancy is sure-footed on hilly, rocky trails and is easy to put into a smooth gait.  She does a head-nodding flat walk and, when asked for more speed, goes into either a rack or stepping pace.  With consistent training, she can be set in a rack and perhaps a running walk.

This is a stout, athletic mare with five years of experience on trails.  I have started her on canter training.  Fancy has been trained using Natural Horsemanship methods.  Easy to handle, load and shoe. Fancy is suitable for a confident intermediate rider.  She is not overly spirited but does have some life to her, so I would not put a novice on her.

To consider:
—Fancy is dominant in the field at feed time and is best pastured with horses that are clearly submissive.
—Fancy was pastured in barbed wire at the time I bought her and has scars on one pastern and on the bulb of one foot that do not affect her soundness but indicate that this mare might cripple herself if fenced in barbed wire.
—A few years ago, Fancy developed hock curbs, which I had freeze-fired, leaving dot-shaped scars on her hocks.  The vet said freeze-firing was the only way to assure the problem would be solved forever.  She has gone perfectly sound ever since.  I will provide my veterinarian's name and phone number for a consultation if desired.

Ahab is an 18-year-old Arabian gelding. If he'd ever been registered, his papers are long lost. Ahab is suitable for an experienced, sensitive rider who likes and wants a spirited horse. He's not crazy but he can be somewhat spooky on the trails when fresh and tends to jig.

See Ahab on the Videos page.
